An automobile accident in 2010 left the Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, resident dependent on a wheelchair but far from being confined to it.

Thanks to some clever rigging on his steering wheel, which allows Howell, 38, to operate all controls — brakes, acceleration and clutch — with his hands, he regularly climbs into his racecar and competes in local races in Middle Tennessee.
